“They’re designed as gender police, pushing
women to stay home and pushing men to stay at work”
|
Women are seen as mothers, and men are the workers.
|
Nowadays, men are not afraid to take on the role commonly linked to
the woman.
|
The reality is that women have always been seen as the caretaker, and
the men as the money maker. But now, the roles are a lot less black and
white. Some men stay home with the kids, and some women have steady jobs
which keeps them away more often. The author is highlighting the new reality
of this stereotype.
|
Masculinity, well the security in it, is what makes a man do things
for his family. Some men are so insecure in their masculinity that they
refrain from doing “feminine” jobs, like raising children and doing
housework.
|
“The overwhelming majority of dads value
family way over money.”
|
Men put their family first.
|
The stereotype that men care more about work than their family is
long gone; men are now more present in the lives of their family.
|
The author is emphasizing how gender roles don’t just effect women. Men
are ridiculed when they value family over money, because that is not the
social norm.
|
Misconception is one of the main truths of gender roles. Stereotypes and
stigmas poison the mind of society. People believe wholeheartedly that women
have to be “feminine” and men have to be “masculine”, and if the two ever
intertwine then something is wrong. However, the roles of men and women are
more similar than different, and they are interchangeable.
